1st XV v Llanybydder

REPORT BY BILL CARNE OF www.pembrokshiresport.co.uk

Newly-promoted Fishguard & Goodwick managed to give Llanybydder an early 17-points advantage and still maintain their 100% start to their campaign with this tense second success as they gradually settled and clawed their way back into contention.
Jack Wilson gave Llanybydder the lead with a penalty and added the conversion to a penalty try after he had been high-tackled close to the line, plus the extras to a try by full back Steffan Davies.
But Seagulls’ skipper Simon James led the fight-back with a try converted by James Griffiths and an unconverted score from centre Rhys Lewis saw them trail by 17-12 at half time – and Fishguard drew level soon after the break with an unconverted try by winger Matthew George.
But back came Llanybydder with a try by skipper and flanker Stuart Harries alongside the conversion and penalty by Wilson and at 27-17 it looked all over an away win.
The Seagulls responded by rolling up their sleeves to produce their best rugby where James Griffiths carved his way through for a try which he also converted, as he did when Mike Jenkins grabbed his fourth try in two games, to set the seal on a very good win for Fishguard & Goodwick.
