U9's v St Davids
Fishguard & Goodwick U9's 5 - 0 Cardigan
The Seagulls under 9's kicked off their season 28th Sept 08 with a thumping win over a gutsy Cardigan side. For the majority of the team this was their first match at full contact and they certainly played with plenty of commitment and enthusiasm. The tackling and running of Lewis Davies and Robbie Jones was a key feature with both making good breaks and putting in some big hits. This gave the side a lot of confidence and Tom Rees and Thomas Robinson were soon getting in on the act cutting down the Cardigan runners at will.Sean Watson played with a lot of grit and energy and had some barnstorming runs ( one of which led to a well deserved try ).Niall Roche and Kyle Jenkins were busy at the breakdown and another debutant Alex Parry showed he was learning all the time and made an excellent conribution at the rucks and mauls.Scott Phillips who has been playing up an age group proved to be a great asset with some sniping runs and it was lovely to see Adam Thomas leave the field with a big grin after enjoying his first ever game.Fishguard played with plenty of pace and the linkning play of George Bean helped the ball from the breakdown to open play very quickly which suited the Seagulls. In fact George can be very pleased with his contribution. This was a great start to the season but there is plenty of work still to be done for this largely inexperienced side with only a few having played full contact before and a number of players namely Alex , Kyle and Adam playing for the first time.
The try scores were: Sean Watson , Lewis Davies ( 3 ) and Robbie Jones.
