PEMBROKESHIRE CUP FISHGUARD & GOODWICK RFC v NEYLAND
FISHGUARD & GOODWICK RFC U11's 5 NEYLAND 2
This was a tough draw for the Seagulls against a side who can count themselves along with Fishguard as one of the best sides in the county at this age group.Having drawn at Fishguard earlier in the season both sides fancied their chances. It was Fishguard however who came out of the blocks with fire in their bellies. The forwards of Morgan,Osian ,Will,Sion and Adam were very physical in their rucking and didn't give the much bigger Neyland pack time to settle.Adam Butler organised his backline well with Emyr and Robbie dealing with Neyland's fly half and star player comfortably. This enabled Mark and Scott to offer themselves in the wider areas of the field.
The bright start led to two opportunistic tries from Adam Butler sniping down the blindside after good work from Adam Bowen and Sion Collella.Osian and lineout specialist Morgan came close with some sharp play from the lineout before Mark Jones scored following great support of the pacy Emyr who put Mark in the clear to make it 3 0.At this point Fishguards tails were up and had they not been penalised a few times near the try line they could have had a couple more.
The second half saw the use of replacements Kyle Davies returning after a long absence and crowd favourite Carys CJ James ,both of whom made good contributions .It was a tight affair with Neyland piling on the pressure but some heroic tackling from Sion Collella and Robbie Jones smothered any threats to the line. However with five minutes remaining the game provided more drama than the recent 6 nations.Neyland struck back to 3-2 and the Fishguard supporters were looking at their watches. However referee Kenny Davies informed everyone there was a minute left. From the kick off the outstanding Sion collella and find of the season Wil Lewis cleared out a couple of Neyland players leaving Adam Butler (who had had a cracking game) to feed inside centre Robbie Jones.Robbie weaved in and out of Neyland's defence only to be hauled down just short. This would have been a deserved try for the young under 10 pocket battleship who had been impressive in defence throughout the game .However from the following ruck the alert Osian fed Mark who darted round the corner for the clinching try.Game over. However with the ref calling last play at the resulting kick off instead of kicking the ball dead Emyr Davies scored a 50 mtere try out of the top drawer to rub salt in the Neyland wounds..A huge pile on resulted with Emz at the bottom!! a great result against tough opposition .Good luck in the Semi's!!Once again thanks to the fantastic group of supporters who made the trip to Neyland .Very much appreciated by the team.
Latest Update : The U11's have been drawn to play against Pembroke Dock at home on the 11th April, 12.00 KO. Be great if as many people could come and support the U11's.
