Fishguard and Goodwick retained the Seagulls’ Cup, competed for annually by these two teams, as they picked up a big win that takes them six points clear of Nantgaredig at the head of the table.
St Davids’ coach Jack Dudley was quick to praise his team’s first-half efforts as they tackled and covered well to restrict the Seagulls to a 14-0 lead with tries from young hooker Owain Morgans and No 8 Mark George, both converted by No 10 James Griffiths.
But the Saints inevitably ran out of steam, although they did manage a try from No 8 Graham Badham, and home fly half Griffiths sliced through for two cracking tries. There were further Fishguard tries from wingers Gareth Adamson, Dai Evans and his replacement Mike Jenkins, skipper Steve Jenkins and a second for George.
Griffiths landed one more conversion before Mark Leonard took over the reins in his last match for the Seagulls and slotted three conversions before taking his family home to his native New Zealand later in the week. Coaches Huw Evans and Randall Williams were quick to pay tribute to Mark for all his work at the club and we wish the Leonard family ‘bon voyage’ from all rugby lovers in Pembrokeshire & Fishguard & Goodwick RFC
